Rapper Juice Wrld Official Cause of Death Released

Published on January 22, 2020

The official cause of death for rapper Juice Wrld has been released. The 21-year-old passed away on December 8 after having a seizure in a Chicago airport.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office announced on Twitter this afternoon that Juice Wrld, real name Jarad A. Higgins died of accidental oxycodone and codeine overdose.

The news confirms what fans already suspected. Many held assumptions that Juice Wrld died of an overdose after reports that Narcan was administered by paramedics at the scene.

Oxycodone is a strong opiate pain killer, and codeine is essentially prescription-strength cough medicine. Both are incredibly dangerous in high doses, and both are popular in the rap community.

The rapper turned 21 very shortly before he passed. He is sadly not the most recent member of what has been dubbed the ‘21 Club‘, a group of talented young musicians who have all passed far too young.

Lexii Alijai passed away on New Year’s Day of this year of a suspected Percocet overdose, although the cause of death has not been confirmed. Percocet is another prescription-strength opiate painkiller.

Drugs and violence have deeply impacted the music industry for many years now, but after so many deaths, the issue is coming to new prominence.
