What Is ‘Hard Knocks’

Hard Knocks is an annual HBO series that is a must-see for football fans, it gives an inside look at training camp, as well as a look at the players lives off the field.

This will be the 14th edition after acquiring 18 Emmy Awards, first starting in 2001 with the Baltimore Ravens. A 30-person NFL Films crew will be at the training camp in Napa Valley, they’ll shoot more than 1,750 hours of footage over the course of the series.

Why The Raiders?

The Raiders will bring the biggest element of entertainment for the viewers — Jon Gruden with his ambitious personality alongside some charismatic newcomers to the team such as; Antonio Brown and Vontaze Burfict.

They also had a big draft with 2 first-round picks where they chose Clelin Ferrell, a defensive end out of Clemson with the fourth overall pick. Also with the twenty-forth pick in the draft (from Chicago), they chose Josh Jacobs, a running back from Alabama.

The Raiders are in a highly-competitive AFC West alongside: reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, and Los Angeles Chargers.

“Everybody wants to be a Raider. Now they’ll find out what it takes to become one,”

– Mark Davis, Owner of the Oakland Raiders

Watching the Transformation

Seven of the last nine teams that were featured on ‘Hard Knocks’ have equaled or improved their win-loss record in the regular season. Last years Cleveland Browns were featured and were able to make an astonishing transformation from win-less to a 7-8-1 record.

Last year, the Raiders put up a 4-12 record to finish last in the AFC West. They will look to join the other seven teams and improve upon their performance of last year.

Training Camp with the Oakland Raiders will kick off its five-episode season on Tuesday August 6th, exclusively on HBO.
