It was as if it happened right as the clock struck twelve at midnight. Netflix announced that Stranger Things 3 will be coming to the streaming platform in 2019. Fans are already eager for their return to Hawkins, Indiana once the summer rolls around. This is the first glimpse of the new season that we’ve been given since the streaming platform released a teaser last summer. Well, aside from the teaser video they released that showed the names of each individual episode.
Netflix’s release included a promotional poster for the new season. It also included a date for the release, and fans can expect the next installment of Stranger Things to arrive just in time for the Fourth of July. The July 4 release date is much earlier in the year than the previous season, which saw its netflix debut on Halloween of 2017. The first season of the series, though, arrived over the summer of 2016.
Stranger Things 3
In celebration of the New Year holiday, Netflix released some New Years Eve footage from Hawkins, Indiana circa 1985. The video shows footage from Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Years Eve during the 1984-1985 ball drop. The footage breaks in and out between glitchy code and the actual New Year’s Eve celebration. In natural Stranger Things form, the video is super creepy. Could this be suggesting that the monsters of The Upside Down make their way into New York City during season 3?
The video also accompanied a promotional poster that shows the children of the show playing under a sky filled with fireworks. Since the show will be released on the Fourth of July, this is all too fitting. The poster shows Eleven and Mike holding hands under the fireworks while the other kids play around them. It even looks like we’ll see the return of characters that were introduced in Season 2, such as Mad Max, a new girl at Hawkins school.
Since its original release of the first season in 2016, Stranger Things has quickly become a cult classic show that captured the hearts of millions of Netflix viewers worldwide. The first season received general critical acclaim across the board. The show was catapulted into fame in just a matter of weeks (as is the case with any big Netflix release). The second season was just as popular, and Netflix ordered the third season just weeks after the release of the second season in 2017.
Fans are expecting something big to come out of Stranger Things 3 since there was no release for the entirety of 2018. The show promises to have a big season with the tagline “one summer can change everything” that suggests this season will have a lot of big changes. I don’t care what happens, I just hope there’s some #JusticeForBarb in Stranger Things 3.
