Nate Setto is a rising R&B artist in Detroit. As a Michigan native, he grew up with a passion for music.
He began writing songs when he was 7 years old and pursued a music career at the age of 20.
Hustling for Dreams
Nate learned early on that if he wanted to really achieve his dreams, then he would have to have a “burn the boats’ mentality.
He was sitting in a dark library, the glow of the computer screen lit his face. The screen read “Student Schedule.” He studied the school website. Yes, this schedule was a fake, but it needed to match the school’s class offerings.
He shut the computer down with a whir, and left for the studio. He hated lying to his parents, about not going to class, but he knew he was so close to his music dream – they couldn’t see it.

The weeks passed, the album was done. The single was blowing up and a music video was planned.
It was time to tell his parents what he’d done — to his surprise, when informing them of his life’s purpose, not only were they impressed with his sound, they instantly supported the vision he saw.
If you truly want to achieve your dreams, you’ll do anything you have to in order to live it.
“I kind of grew up with like a strict family. And when I was in college that my parents either wanted me to take over family business or be like a lawyer or a doctor or something like that. Something I didn’t want to do. When I was in college I would kind of fake my own schedule.
I went to the library and typed up, top to bottom, a fake schedule. Just so I could have some time to go to the studio. So I’m like ok, I’m going to class now. I’d go to the studio, pretty much do my thing. After some time, once I got my sound together, I kind of presented it to my parents.
So I was like look this is what I want to do. And they listened to it and they actually really, really liked it. It didn’t sound like something I made in the basement. They became accepting of it, and have been accepting ever since.”

Personal Struggles Lead to Redemption
He just launched his latest single, Novocaine, where he is working on shedding some light to listeners who are struggling with anxiety,
depression, and substance abuse because he wants to remind people that they are not alone and that there are better ways in dealing with depression.
Nate felt that sharing his own story would help to show others that they are not fighting alone and there is help for them.
Now, he has a rapidly growing fan base with over 50K followers on Instagram, over 1.3M views on YouTube and over 36K followers on
Facebook. As artist building a strong brand, he’s well aware of the path he is creating .
Nate Setto sits down with me, Jeremy Ryan Slate, on the latest episode of the Create Your Own Life Show.
