As a Monday motivation columnist, I feel that it’s both my obligation and honor to be writing words of encouragement. We all know what’s going in the world with COVID-19 and the novel coronavirus that’s causing this disease and it’s frightening. Many people are reporting heightened levels of anxiety and others are doing whatever they can to help out however they can. We’re all in this together and we may as well make the most of it, as well as learn from it.
Each country around the planet is experiencing similar changes, one after the other, as this pandemic of COVID-19 tours the globe. Each of us, as individuals, are going through changes. Job loss, depletion of savings, limited access to food, working from home if we’re lucky enough to be working, sharing a household with others and being at home 24/7.

Monday motivation tips to stay healthy
Monday motivation may not provide the entertainment factor that “Dogs Working from Home” and other fun outlets on social media provide, but we are all part of the same team that’s trying to help you get through this. Beyond the incalculable sales of toilet paper, Americans are buying significantly more snacks and soda than normal. Ditto for wine.
The New York Times reported that Pepsi and pizza chains around the country are hiring tens of thousands of temporary workers to meet the demand. Some wine stores have reported tripling their orders for snacks and an inability to keep wine on their shelves. Adding temporary employees to stock grocery shelves, manage the supply chain, drive trucks and forklifts or other warehouse job functions are not a surprise at times like this. However, this tremendous spike in the consumption of pizza, snacks and wine is cause for pause.
I understand the convenience and satisfaction offered by a bag of chips. Mmmm … salt … and I’m a stress eater so I understand that, too. It’s been said, “If there was ever a time to panic …” Indeed, these are stressful times for everyone. But we need to be careful about what we’re eating, how much we’re sleeping, how much time we’re spending online and how much we’re eating is as important as what we’re eating. Here are some Monday motivation tips on what to cut back on:
#1 – consumption of news
We all know that there is a global pandemic out there. Morbidly watching the numbers go up and fixating on those graphs or consuming news about the novel coronavirus all day long is not healthy. We’re a responsible news outlet and we’re telling you to limit your exposure – no pun intended.
#2 – salty and fatty snacks
Sure, we all love a bag of chips or a bowl of buttery popcorn, and most of us probably equate movie time with a salty snack. Now that we’re watching movies and streaming TV episodes more than ever before, it’s really tempting to stuff our faces all day. But we need to find some self-control.
#3 – wine, beer and spirits
It’s tempting, isn’t it? You’re home all day, every day, you don’t have to get up early for work, why not kick back and have one or two or more? Monday Schmonday, why not have drinks on Tuesday and Wednesday, too? Establishing daily patterns that are similar to your normal routines that existed before they got corona’ed is essential. If you only had drinks on the weekends, stick to that regimen. Think about drinking less not only for your health but to more carefully manage your supply.
