Lactation-Support Startup Pumpspotting Aims To Raise $1.15 mln in Seed Round

Pumpspotting, a lactation-support startup based in Kittery, has launched a $1.15 million seed round to accelerate the growth of its lactation-support platform.

The seed financing round is being led by MooDoos Investments and has counted with participation from the Maine Venture Fund, Maine Angels, Launchpad Venture Group, Opus Ventures, and Crystal McKellar. Caitlin Wege, a managing partner of MooDoos, referred to the funding round by stating:

“We see a tremendous opportunity to better serve families through community-driven tech with Pumpspotting. Pumpspotting is leading the way towards enhanced family benefits that are going to be an essential part of corporate culture and retention strategies for both employees and shoppers, especially mothers. The benefits of supporting feeding parents are undeniable and we are pleased to be a part of the next generation of solutions.”

So far, the startup has raised over $657k in funding since its founding in 2015, with its last corporate funding round taking place back in June of 2021. At this time, the startup is looking to grow its B2B channel to help employers, retailers, and brands to transform their “breastfeeding-tolerant climates into breastfeeding-supportive climates”.

Pumpspotting has attracted over 40,000 working parents since being founded in 2015, collaborating with employers, retailers, universities, and other businesses to provide breastfeeding benefits and accommodations to its employers. The startup also announced a partnership with the Maine Bureau of Human Resources to provide over 31,000 employees with lactation support.

Pumpspotting founder and CEO Amy VanHaren referred to how companies benefit from offering breastfeeding programs by stating:

“We know that breastfeeding has a myriad of benefits for babies and parents alike and that businesses benefit when they support breastfeeding as well: reduced absenteeism, improved customer loyalty, and more than 600% ROI on their lactation programs,”

According to recent studies, 50% of women in the United States feel the need to choose between breastfeeding their babies or working, which has been demonstrated to have negative effects on their mental and physical health. For this reason, more companies are implementing lactation programs to improve morale and increase retention in the workplace, which is what the market the lactation-support startup is looking to capitalize on.
