HubSpot Acquires The Hustle In Move To Increase Brand Education

Published on February 5, 2021

The customer relation software HubSpot (NYSE: HUBS) announced this week that it acquired a media company called The Hustle, which has built a strong readership through its newsletter and podcast, in addition to its strong online presence as a research platform for technology and business news. The company hopes that it will be able to use The Hustle to increase awareness about the ways in which brand scaling services can help benefit companies as a whole.

“For many customers, their first introduction to HubSpot is through our educational blog, Academy, and Youtube content, not our software. More recently, our customers have started to seek out news and trends-based content across new forms of media like podcasts, newsletters, and research,” wrote the SVP of marketing, Kate Flanagan, in a statement. “By acquiring The Hustle, we’ll be able to better meet the needs of these scaling companies by delivering educational, business, and tech trend content in their preferred formats. Sam and his team have a proven ability to create content that entrepreneurs, startups, and scaling companies are deeply passionate about, and I’m excited to bring them on board to take that work to the next level,” the statement read.

Prior to acquiring The Hustle, HubSpot focused largely on the content on its website. The company’s educational content served as a significant resource for teaching business owners how to scale and grow their business, and the company’s YouTube account served as an educational platform for educational business resources. The company also has HubSpot Academy, a service that teaches over 100,000 people each month about various business strategies and skills. Through The Hustle, the company will be able to leverage these services to reach new audiences in new ways, making it convenient for consumers to get the product in an email newsletter.

“I started The Hustle with the mission to help give business builders the information they needed to put their dent into the world and change how media companies operate,” said the founder of The Hustle, Sam Parr, in a statement. “By joining the HubSpot team, we’ll take that mission to the next level to build the best business content networks in the world,” read the statement. The Hustle was launched in 2016 and quickly became a leading source for business news.
