Hours after news that HBO scrapped its plans for a prequel from showrunner Jane Goldman, starring Naomi Watts, HBO has a more exciting announcement—”House of the Dragon.”

Forget thousands of years before the original series—let’s focus on House Targaryen and dragons. On Tuesday, HBO announced that it has officially ordered a “Game of Thrones” prequel and spin-off called “House of the Dragon,” which is based on George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood.”

The show, which has been ordered straight to series, is created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal. Additionally, Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal will partner as showrunners and will also serve as executive producers along with King Martin himself!

The news was announced at WarnerMedia Day by Casey Bloys, HBO Programming president.

The most exciting part of the announcement is that we won’t have to worry about it being as garbage-like as the final Game of Thrones season turned out to be because King Martin himself is set to co-executive produce! Martin, who wrote the Game of Thrones series, will be co-producing ten episodes as a start.

The ‘Game of Thrones’ universe is so rich with stories,” Bloys said in a statement. “We look forward to exploring the origins of House Targaryen and the earlier days of Westeros along with Miguel, Ryan and George.”

We can tell you that as we are currently reading “Fire & Blood,” this straight to HBO series is going to be lit!! The novel explores the history of Westeros 300 years prior to the events of the original show and will explore the tale of House Targaryen.

Hell yeah, dragons on dragons on dragons!

“House of the Dragon” will be the first of many projects for a new deal that executive producer Miguel Spochnik, along with Condal and Vince Gerardis are collaborating on.

Now, spoiler warning—it’s safe to assume that YES most of the characters we will come to know in this show will be killed off—unless they have found some witchcraft like Melisandre to stay alive for 300+ years.

Let the fire reign!
