Coronavirus cases continue to increase, but are states listening to those reports? According to the CDC Covid Data Tracker, the top four states with the highest cases are California, Texas, Georgia, and Florida. Even with its state as one of the top for coronavirus cases, Florida governor Ron DeSantis wants to allow Florida’s theme parks to up their capacity allowing more victors to come in.
In a recent press release, the governor said that the state would support the move in increasing capacity to their theme parks in a discussion at Universal Orlando with leaders from Universal, Walt Disney World, and SeaWorld.
“We think the capacity can be increased. When you have the kind of protocols they have in place, you know, we’re very comfortable at the state level that they’re doing it in a good way.”
In March, Walt Disney World made the call that it would shut down its four theme parks and other resort properties. Universal, Busch Gardens, SeaWorld, Adventure Island, and Legoland soon after made the call to close their parks as well. Resulting in the first time, all theme parks in Florida closed down at the same time.
As of right now, Disney has hunkered down on their safety measures by only allowing guests with proper masks into the parks. Many rules are set in place, and guests have to reserve their time in the parks beforehand to assist in limiting the capacity.
The rest of the theme parks in Florida have changed their hours and only allowed certain people into the parks at a time. Many have also opted to cancel special holiday events through the rest of the year.
Seeing all of the Florida theme parks at capacity is nothing new that we haven’t seen before. Last year, we saw Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom reach their limit and turn guests away, but is this something that Florida and its theme parks want to take on during a pandemic?
Governor Ron DeSantis says that he is confident and supports expanding the capacity of the parks. He believes that more guests will be willing to go to the parks since the capacity isn’t limited. More people could come to visit the parks like before, boosting tourism amid the economic crisis.
With a decline in Florida cases, the governor is more than sure that easing the capacity limits could create a better atmosphere for the parks. Still, even with a decline, you may have visitors coming in from places with cases rising.
