It’s his main preference for social media. The news comes shortly after, in a surprising move, Johnson endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for office.
Johnson celebrated the news in style, wearing a snazzy bowtie and enjoying a bottle of his very own tequila, Teremana. In an Instagram video, the influential movie star reminded his 200 million followers to always speak their truth. “Here’s what I’ve learned these past few weeks and maybe, you can find value in this take away and apply it to your own life,” Johnson said. “Always speak your truth. And when you do speak your truth – do your best to speak with dignity, compassion, respect, poise and empathy. Even when the conversations get uncomfortable – when you approach with respect and care – on the other side of discomfort – is clarity and progress.”
Johnson had never publicly endorsed a political candidate before. While most movie stars hold very little or zero political influence in the grand scheme of things, Johnson does. He’s a man people look up to, not just an actor on the big screen. Usually, though, he’s not an actor who wants to ruffle any feathers or divide his audience.
With the upcoming election, Johnson decided it was time to officially and publicly endorse a candidate for the first time. “I have been a lucky guy over the years, in my life and my career to have been part of and participated in some real defining moments, and I’ve never publicly endorsed a presidential candidate or vice presidential candidate in my life, over my career,” he said, before interviewing Biden and Harris. “As a political independent and centrist for many years, I’ve voted for Democrats in the past and as well as Republican. In this critical election, I believe Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the best to lead our country, and as my first ever (public) Presidential endorsement, I proudly endorse them for the presidential office of our United States.”
The endorsement did draw heat to Johnson — something a man of his mental, physical, and financial strength can handle. On Johnson’s endorsement post, it was flooded with negative comments from Joe Biden’s opposers. Johnson, however, stuck to his guns and simply shared who he’s voting for and expressed his wishes for the future.
Although Dwayne Johnson typically keeps his political opinions to himself, he has expressed interest in one day running for office. “I saw Kamala Harris’ speech the other day and thought it was good,” he once said. “Just for me, I lack the experience, I lack a lot of things. Certainly not right now. I’m not ruling it out. I’m not ruling out the idea if I could make a bigger impact somehow, or potentially surround myself with good people.” The successful businessman would be a serious contender in any election considering his following.
