Does James Cordon Pretend to Drive in ‘Carpool Karaoke’?

Published on January 23, 2020

The “Carpool Karaoke” segment on The Late Late Show with James Corden has long been a fan-favorite, but a Twitter video has fans wondering just how authentic the series actually is.

Corden and The Biebs

Justin Bieber and Corden have recently been teasing Bieber’s third appearance on “Carpool Karaoke.” He was one of Corden’s first guests in 2015, and it seems he’ll be back after almost five years. However, this new footage might overshadow his long-awaited return.

“Saw James corden and Justin Bieber filming carpool karaoke and this is why I have trust issues — he isn’t even driving!” @zolihonig tweeted.

The clip has gone viral on twitter, garnering over 320,000 likes. Many people have been replying with tweets similar to @smoljungkookbun’s, “MY WHOLE LIFE HAS BEEN A LIE.” Others think the show’s name should be changed to “Carpull Karaoke.”

However, some people seem to be confused by the video. Matthew Ables tweeted: “When I saw him filming in 2017 with Katy Perry he was driving!” and linked back to the tweet with photos of Perry and Cordon in the car.

@nikkitbfh also tweeted something similar saying, “Y’all when I saw One Direction filming Carpool Karaoke James was actually driving.” She also included a photo of the boys in the car with Cordon.

In Conclusion…

There could be any number of reasons why Bieber and Cordon were seen being pulled around. Safety probably has something to do with it. Maybe Cordon used to drive but decided it was probably too dangerous to be filming a segment with Hollywood’s biggest stars while also controlling a moving vehicle.

Cordon has had a wide range of famous guests since “Carpool Karaoke” started back in 2015. Some of this past decade’s biggest stars, such as One Direction, Adele, Selena Gomez and Shawn Mendes, have all been a part of the series. Cordon has even invited iconic acts including Elton John, Paul McCartney and Mariah Carey as well. This extensive list of celebs has made “Carpool Karaoke” a huge hit for fans of all ages.

Billie Eilish was a guest on his most recent segment. When watching it back, there isn’t any moment that alludes to Corden faking driving. The two dance and sing, but Corden never takes his eyes off of the road for too long. However, he could just be a really good actor. So, who knows?

Corden hasn’t commented on the video yet, but you can’t blame fans for feeling deceived.
