Das Energi Festival Lights Up The Great Salt Lake

Published on August 21, 2018

Das Energi Festival took place over the weekend at The Great Saltair just outside of Salt Lake City. The festival attracted nearly 22,000 attendees over its two-day period and featured headlining performances from electronic artists such as Deadmau5, Rezz, Kaskade, Rusko and Dillon Francis. The festival grounds spanned three stages throughout the Great Saltair’s interior and exterior with a third stage and art installments scattered throughout the beach of the Great Salt Lake.

Frequent lightning, high winds and rain caused Das Energi to shut down for a few hours Friday evening after the beach stage was rumored to have collapsed during the storm, hurting at least one. Fortunately, the festival staff was able to safely move the crowd inside as it handled the issues and got the event back up and running shortly after the storm ended a few hours later. That night attendees saw sets from artists like What So Not, Dillon Francis and Kaskade. Unfortunately the beach stage was not able to open back up for night one, but they were able to get it up and running the next day.

Das Energi Finds Success Despite Bad Weather

Saturday saw much bigger success for Das Energi. The festival was up and running without issues throughout the entire night as attendees poured through the gates early to make up for lost time from the night before. The beach stage, Galactic Flats, was up and running. In addition to a stage the beach also held various interactive art installations and a marketplace for attendees to purchase merchandise and other goods. There was also a VIP sitting area for crowds to relax during shows at the Temple of Boom mainstage. The beach was a great touch that made Das Energi stand out among its competition as a smaller electronic music festival.

Das Energi secured its place on the radar as a rising star in up and coming music festivals to look out for in the future with its 2018 installment. Despite the couple of setbacks that brought the festival down, it was still able to shine as thousands of happy faces danced through two nights of great music. Deadmau5, Rezz, Rusko, NGHTMRE and Snails closed the festival out to massive crowds as the beach of the Great Salt Lake lit up the night sky. Das Energi Festival marks one of the biggest weekends of the year for Salt Lake’s local music scene, as it draws crowds from all over the country at the end of every summer.
