Coming To HBO Max: a Comedy Satirizing Royals

Published on January 21, 2020

Oh, man. This is going to be good. The Prince, a new animated comedy satirizing the British Royal Family, is coming to HBO Max. The series is written and executive produced by Gary Janetti, who also worked on Family Guy.

The Instagram Inspiration

The series springs from Janetti’s Instagram account, where he teases the Royal Family through the eyes of the young Prince George. Prince George is the son of Prince William, and he’s third in line to the throne.

On Janetti’s Instagram, George is a sassy little thing constantly spilling tea and throwing shade at the members of his family.

“We’re so excited to bring the world Gary’s created on Instagram over to HBO Max, where our viewers can discover what his Instagram fans already know – that George can be hilarious, shocking, and surprisingly sweet. We can’t wait to see what Gary does with a bigger canvas to paint on than just a 1:1 square.”

Janetti will voice Prince George. The rest of the cast includes Orlando Bloom as Prince Harry, Condola Rashad at Meghan Markle, Lucy Punch as Kate Middleton, Tom Hollander as both Prince Philip and Prince Charles, Alan Cumming as George’s butler Owen, Frances De La Tour as Queen Elizabeth, and Iwan Rheon as Prince William.

Janetti said of the series,

“I’m thrilled to be working at HBO Max and bringing them yet another series about a family ruthlessly fighting for the throne…”

The Prince joins a very exciting list of new content set for HBO Max, including Americanah, starring Lupita Nyong’o and a series on climate change from Adam McKay.

We don’t have any details yet on when this new animated comedy will arrive, but I can’t wait. The Prince is bound to be a funny, lighthearted take on one of the world’s most fascinating families. What could go wrong?
