A former athlete is changing the industry with an app that lets you rent sports equipment at the touch of a button. Michael Roloff, the founder of Rental Pal, is a former skateboarder that wanted to give back to the community by making it easy for families and individuals to rent sports equipment.
Whether you’re going on vacation or just looking to try something new, sports equipment is usually pretty pricey. A lot of people come to California or the West Coast to surf in the summer and fall seasons, and it’s not always easy or possible to keep a surfboard. Now, if you live in California or Hawaii, it’s easy to rent sports equipment with Rental Pal (soon to expand nationally).
Roloff was a skateboarder for 15 years, before getting injured and retiring from professional skateboarding. He talks about what led him to start Rental Pal:
“As a former amateur skateboarder, I have always had a love for sports. When my career ended due to a knee injury, I wanted to still give back to the community. I started Rental Pal because a lot of people have good quality sports gear that is just collecting dust in their home or it is a seasonal sport for them and not getting used. Before I started Rental Pal, I spent a lot of time working, and could not go snowboarding every weekend. I would rent the equipment to people who did not own boards and I ended up making double what the snowboard cost and even did this with golf clubs and baseball bats. That is when I felt I needed to create something that offers people a secure way to make money or borrow sports gear.”
In addition, Rental Pal has been participating in community events and helping to promote local sporting events throughout California. They’ve recently partnered with SDI Racing, owner of the Indian Motorcycle team and promoter for American Flat Track/Harley Davidson to promote racing events taking place throughout California.
