BTS Announce Comeback Date for Map of the Soul: 7

Published on January 7, 2020

Remember when I talked about waiting for BTS to announce news on new music? Well, it happened!

The K-Pop group announced the release of their new album Map of the Soul: 7 via their fan-cafe site, Weverse, as well as Twitter. The news comes two weeks after the out-of-the-blue tour announcement made by their company, Big Hit Entertainment.

According to the announcement, provided in Korean, English and Japanese, the album will be released on Friday, February 21st. Pre-orders begin on January 9th and more details will come later on Weverse.

What Have BTS Been Doing?

The new album comes 10 months after BTS dropped the first in the Map of the Soul series, Map of the Soul: Persona. Its main single, “Boy With Luv” featured New Jersey native Halsey and made music history, having the highest debut on the Billboard Hot 100 by a Korean group. The song’s music video also broke the record for most views on YouTube in 24 hours.

Since then, they’ve concluded their “Love Yourself: Speak Yourself” stadium tour, released their BTS WORLD mobile game and companion soundtrack, put out several DVD sets, aired their annual Bon Voyage travel series, and went on a month-long extended hiatus from work, their first break since debuting in 2013. So really, they’ve still done quite a lot.

Additionally, the septet became the new global ambassadors for sportswear brand, Fila. The first photo from the BTS x Fila campaign came out in December. The full campaign is expected to be released later this month.

What to Expect from ‘MOTS: 7’

Map of the Soul: 7 serves as a continuation to the Map of the Soul saga. Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung’s book Map of the Soul serves as the inspiration for the series. The group dives into the Jungian archetypes of psyche, ego and of course, persona.

MOTS: Persona also began BTS’ journey back to past, alluding to previous comebacks the group has made. Leader Kim Namjoon (RM) leads us through the opening track (Intro: Persona), which samples the intro from their second EP, Skool Luv Affair. Perhaps, we will see more trips to the past in the new album too.

With pre-orders coming in this week and the album arriving faster than we may think, a BTS tour is now imminent. Time to prepare our wallets, ARMYs!
