Avengers Gets Prize at ADG for Best Art Category

Published on February 3, 2020

Art Directors Guild of America (ADG) made a ceremony February 1st to decide winners on 11 categories. At Fantasy Featured Movies, Avengers: Endgame was running side by side with Aladdin, Dumbo, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Star Wars: The rise of Skywalker and Ad Astra.

Avengers counted with 74 people related with its art design and was supervised by Raymond Chan. Therefore, the ADG is considered as one of Oscar’s thermometers.

Other movies and TV shows also got a prize at the ADG. Toy Story 4, Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood, Chernobyl, The Russian Doll, The Umbrella Academy and The Big Bang Theory were some of the night’s winners.

Outside of ADG, we all know that the Avengers movie was a huge success. It reached $1 billion within its opening weekend and spent about $356 million on production and marketing.

Another relevant piece of information is the amount of money they spent in publicity: $200 million. The film was destined to be a success. They made an extraordinary graphic design and script.

Marvel movies are based on comics released every month and are in different timezones as the films now, yet always related with the moment the company lives.

What’s happening in the comics then?

Well well well, Donny Cates, one of Marvel’s story writers, posted on Twitter an image of Thor, who is also an Avenger, on DC world. Yada yada, we also know about their long “rivalry.” But Thor: The Blackest of Winters will count with a scene in Metropolis, the city that Justice League lives in and protects.

Cates already said about his reference on DC world and added colors that refer to the main characters of Justice League: Wonder Woman, Batman, Aquaman, Cyborg and Flash.

After making stories together, DC and Marvel seem to get closer on the comics and, hopefully, on the screens as well. After Fox and Disney become united, we can expect both worlds to cross at some point. With this, we also get full of expectations about what may happen in the next movies.

Avengers: Endgame also contains Easter Eggs, nothing more nothing less than hidden messages on it. So we’ve listed five of them for you!

#1: Knowledge of the X-men

Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, already declared that “it only makes sense” for both worlds to meet. When Scott Lang visits Vanished Memorial, we can see one mutant on the list. Roberto da Costa will be the new Sunspot on New Mutants movie.

#2: Funeral scene

Did you realize that during the funeral scene Harley Keener shows up? He appeared on Iron Man 3, when had 10-years-old, and now comes back in the end of Endgame. What does it supposed to mean?

#3: No after credits scene

That’s right, fans of Marvel movies know you’re not supposed to leave the movie theater until after credits in order to watch some special scene. But this time, it was different: no scenes showed up. Only a song… can you remember where was it from?

Well, this one is hard, we know. But it’s the same song as was in first Iron Man movie, when he makes his armor while kidnapped.

#4: First gay character on MCU

Yes, yes, yes! First gay character on MCU was performed by the director’s brother, Joe Russo. He makes a reference to his husband during a group therapy session and now is the first openly gay person in Marvel movies.

#5: Flashback?

Last but not least… when Captain America is going back to the past in Endgame, he says goodbye to Bucky and tells him the same line as he heard when was getting into the aircraft on the first Captain America movie. And Bucky answers just like he heard!

How crazy is all this?
