Taylor Swift Reveals Mom Andrea Swift Has A Brain Tumor

Published on February 13, 2020

While undergoing chemotherapy treatment, Taylor Swift’s mom Andrea Swift was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Swift revealed the devastating news in an emotional cover story for Variety. Andrea Swift was diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and relapsed last year. This has been an especially hard time for the Swifts, which Taylor briefly touched on in her Netflix Documentary Miss Americana.

“The symptoms of what a person goes through when they have a brain tumor is nothing what we’ve ever been through with her cancer before,” says Taylor. “So it’s just been a really hard time for us as a family,” she continued.

Mom’s Illness Has Impacted Swift’s Touring Schedule, But Allowed The Two To Cherish Their Time Together.

Swift has cut back on touring for her latest album, Lover, to be with her family. While normally spending 9 months on a world tour, she’s chosen to only perform 4 dates in the United States and then circulate some of Europe’s bigger festivals like Glastonbury.

In a December article with Billboard, Swift talked about how she chose to cut back on her tour dates for personal reasons. “This is a year where I have to be there for my family … there’s a lot of question marks throughout the next year, so I wanted to make sure that I could go home,” she said.

Taylor says that being there for her mom and her family is her main concern. “We don’t know what is going to happen,” she said in the Billboard interview. “Wed don’t know what treatment we’re going to choose. It just was the decision to make at the time, for right now, for what is going on,” she continued.

Mom Andrea Swift Is Also Swift’s Manager

Swift’s mom is famously her best friend and biggest supporter. Fans can find Andrea Swift at most concerts and award shows, as well as playing a big part in the Miss Americana documentary.

While going through this difficult time, Swift released the song “Soon You’ll Get Better” about her mother’s diagnosis. The singer revealed that it was a “family decision” to put the song on her latest album. In the track, Swift says “Who am I supposed to talk to? What am I supposed to do? If there is no you.”

Swift discusses how it has been to not only have her mom, but her manager and best friend be seriously ill. “Everyone loves their mom; Everyone’s got an an important mom, but for me she’s really been the guiding force,” says Swift in the same interview with Billboard.

Taylor says that her mothers cancer has taught her to focus on the important things. In Miss Americana, Swift reveals that her mom’s illness forced her to take a step back from focusing on how the world looked at her and pay attention to the people closest to her.
