Amanda Gorman Signs With IMG Models

Published on January 28, 2021

On Tuesday, one of the biggest modeling agencies in the world, IMG Models announced that they signed inaugural poet Amanda Gorman.

It’s been a big week for 22-year-old Harvard graduate Gorman. On January 20th, she read her poem, “The Hill We Climb” at President Biden’s inauguration. She is the youngest inaugural poet in history. Her powerful words took the nation by storm, and she became a household name within minutes.

Later in the week, she announced not one, but two upcoming book projects. One is a book of her poetry, named after her inaugural poem and one is a children’s book called Change Sings. Both books shot to the top of the Amazon charts, although neither is available until fall.

Then, Gorman signed with IMG Models, an agency that represents Naomi Osaka, Gigi Hadid, and Chrissy Teigen. It’s unlikely, however, that we’ll see the famed poet strutting down runways anytime soon. IMG Models will represent Gorman as she navigates the world of editorial endorsements. That means, like Osaka, we’ll see Gorman in some glossy campaigns soon.

“Change is occurring in the fashion industry, and it’s a shift that each of us can advocate for across all brands, “Gorman told Teen Vogue. Her new representation will allow her to bring her activism into the fashion world.

Her gorgeous poetry wasn’t the only thing that captured people’s attention at the inauguration. The poet was also praised for her fabulous fashion. She wore a long yellow coat and red satin headband, both by the Italian fashion house, Prada. Her ring, in the shape of a caged bird, was a subtle nod to poet Maya Angelou.

Writers House and WME will continue to represent Gorman when it comes to her writing career.

In addition to all the other incredible things Gorman achieved in the last week, “Good Morning America” announced Wednesday morning that Gorman will perform this year’s Superbowl pre-show. In another first, she will be the first poet to ever perform at the Superbowl.

“Humbled to be the first poet to perform at the Super Bowl! I’m so excited to place poetry at the forefront of the most watched U.S. television broadcast, & to honor 3 heroes of the coronavirus pandemic. Can’t wait for the world to hear their stories!” Gorman tweeted about her upcoming performance.
