A Positive Mindset: 5 Steps to a More Productive You with Kristen Butler

Published on November 30, 2022

We all know someone with a great outlook on life. No matter what the circumstance, they always look for the positive side of things and inspire others to do the same. You might be thinking, “How do they do it? or more likely, “I could never be like that.” Well, the good news, according to author and certified life coach Kristen Butler, is that you can indeed learn how to have a more positive mindset and completely shift how you view and experience life. It just takes a little bit of effort (and maybe some mind tricks).

Kristen Butler is a woman on a mission. After suffering from depression and anxiety for many years, she finally found relief through positive thinking and self-care. Now, she’s dedicated to helping others do the same. Kristen is the founder of The Power of Positivity, a website, community, and global movement that encourages people to surround themselves with positive energy in order to live happier lives. Yes, you can shift your mindset from negative to positive, just like Kristen did.

A positive mindset is key for success and allows you to see the best in yourself and your potential for greatness. First, you must believe that you can accomplish your goals before you can.

In today’s social media-driven world, it’s easy to get caught up in the comparison trap with others. The truth is, comparisons are unfair; we only ever see other people’s highlight reels, never their behind-the-scenes struggles. Decide to concentrate on your own journey and acknowledge your individual successes rather than comparing yourself to others, no matter how small they may seem.

Kristen shares her own personal story of how she learned the importance of avoiding comparisons. As a young girl, Kristen constantly compared herself to others, trying to be as good as or better than them. She was never happy with who she was, always feeling like she needed to be someone else. This led to a lot of unhappiness, anxiety, and depression in her life.

It wasn’t until she realized how beautiful she was inside and out that she began to learn the importance of being herself. This newfound love helped her to start accepting herself too. She realized that it’s okay to not be perfect and that it’s much more important to be happy with who you are than it is to compare yourself to others.

Since then, Kristen has dedicated her life to helping others learn the power of positivity and how they can use it in their own lives to achieve greater happiness. Seeing the impact a positive mindset had on her life was the inspiration for founding her company, Power Of Positivity.

Butler is no stranger to adversity. In her early 20s, she struggled with depression and almost committed suicide. She came through all of that largely by developing a positive mindset. Since then, she has maintained an unshakeable positive attitude, even during life’s challenges. This is available to everyone, and that’s what Kristen wants to share with the world.

“I had to learn how to be strong,” Butler says. “I’m so grateful for that experience because it taught me how to face challenges head-on.”

Throughout her life, Butler has faced many other challenges as well, but she never lost sight of her goal: to help others find happiness and peace despite their hardships. And now, with her upcoming book, The Comfort Zone, she is doing just that. The Comfort Zone is a paradigm-shifting guide to show people how to live with more joy, creativity, and ease.

Here are five ways to live a more positive life, from the positivity expert herself.

Interrupt Negative Thoughts

Living a life anchored in positivity, doesn’t mean you’ll never have negative thoughts. For each negative belief, Kristen recommends you consider whether each unfavorable belief is actually true, or to ask yourself the question “How can I support this claim with evidence?” Most of the time, when we really examine our beliefs, we realize that they’re based on assumptions or things we can’t control—neither of which is helpful in creating a positive mindset.

Gratitude

Gratitude is key to maintaining a positive mindset. When we focus on what we’re grateful for, it’s difficult to simultaneously have negative thoughts running through our heads. Kristen recommends spending a few minutes each day practicing gratitude by brainstorming things you’re thankful for — big or small. You might be surprised how much positivity this simple exercise brings into your life.

A key way to shift your focus from negative belief is to think about things you’re grateful for, no matter how big or small. There is always something to be thankful for, no matter how horrible things may seem in the moment. Maybe you’re grateful for your bed after a long day, enough gas in your car to get around, or maybe you’re grateful for a coworker who always has your back or crossing a big milestone. Whatever it is, taking time each day to reflect on what’s going right in your life will help increase your overall happiness and positivity.

Meditation and Exercise

“If you want to live a positive life,” Butler says, “you have to look after your mind and body. That means meditating every day and getting regular exercise.” Kristen has been practicing meditation for more than 20 years and has seen the benefits firsthand. “It helps me stay centered and focused on what’s important,” she says. “And it’s helped me deal with stress better.”

Exercise is also important; “it helps keep your body healthy and your mind clear,” Butler says. She recommends getting at least 30 minutes of exercise each day – something that can be easily fit into your schedule. Not only does regular exercise help you feel better physically, it’s also shown to boost confidence and self esteem.

Surround Yourself with Positive People

If “you are what you eat,” the same can be said for the people with whom you spend time. Surrounding yourself with positive people will provide not only motivation but also accountability as you work on changing your own thinking patterns.

“The best way to harness the power of positivity is by surrounding yourself with positive people,” says Kristen. “These are the types of people who will boost your self-esteem and enable you to perceive the positive aspects of life.”

Journaling

Kristen also recommends keeping a positivity journal. “This is a great way to document all your accomplishments, big and small, as well as your goals for the future. It’s a great way to keep track of your progress and stay motivated.” Kristen’s best-selling book, the “3 Minute Positivity Journal: Boost Your Mood. Train Your Mind. Change Your Life.” is a great way to get started with your journaling practice.

These are just five ways to step into a life of more positivity. Kristen’s company, Power of Positivity, on their website and social media, provides many, many more ways to live a more positive life.
