Looking for a good way to avoid being dragged to the Nutcracker or your great aunt’s house this December? These tech conferences are a good excuse to skip the usual and discover new things happening in Tampa Bay.

Technology and startups here are now worth $450 million according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal, which is all the more reason to take a look at these events.

#1 — “The Future of Tech” by The Tampa Bay Wave

The Tampa Bay Wave is a co-working space and business accelerator program aimed at tech startups. Its goal is to help 50 businesses get their start and help five of those find “break-out success” in the next five years.

The company’s upcoming networking event, “The Future of Tech,” will be on December 5 at Zydeco Brew Works. The Future of Tech is to “celebrate what technology has and will do to drive innovation and build community,” according to the company’s event page.

The event will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets for the event are based on donation with the minimum donation accepted being 25 dollars.

#2 — “MacDill AFB Tech Expo” by the AFCEA

Feeling lucky this December? The Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association (AFCEA) is hosting its “MacDill AFB Tech Expo” on Friday December 13.

The AFCEA is an organization that works to assist in government-industry connection especially in the tech world. They also fund various events and scholarship programs in the technology industry.

The event begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Surf’s Edge Club and concludes at 1:30 p.m, featuring over 45 vendors. Registration is required.

#3 — “December Tech Fest” by High Tech Connect

High Tech Connect is an organization that promotes networking and education in throughout the Tampa Bay tech scene. The organization frequently parents with companies like Synapse, Tampa Bay Tech, Women Ambassadors Forum and Embarc Collective Tampa Bay.

The event is a holiday party, networking event and a toy drive benefiting Toys for Tots and begins on December 11 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

#4 — Florida Cybersecurity Conference by FutureCon

FutureCon is an organization that aims to educate people on cyber-security and connect people who have a need for cyber-security. They host a number of events like this across the United States, with the next event taking place in Florida in October 2020 and south Florida in December 2020.

This month’s upcoming conference will feature different speakers, including Stu Sjouwerman as the keynote speaker. Sjouwerman is the founder and CEO of KnowBe4, Inc., which hosts the world’s most popular integrated Security Awareness Training and Simulated Phishing platform. 

The conference will begin December 4, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Tampa Doubletree Westshore Airport. The registration fee is $200 for a full-day pass, or $45 for access to only the exhibit floor.

#5 — Annual Holiday Party by Women in Technology International

The 30th Annual Holiday Party is a networking event and holiday party hosted by Women in Technology International (WITI), an organization that connects women in the technology workforce by hosting career fairs, webinars and other networking events.

The event is on December 18 from 5:30 to 8:30. For members, the registration fee is $20 and $35 for non-members.
